Project Description

Project consisted of a modification of electrical distribution and addition of an additional standby diesel generator to supplement existing standby power generation system for and expansion at a Product Distribution Center.

An expansion of the laboratory facilities that contained five (5) lab hoods with their associated makeup air units and lavatory equipment loads required the addition of new 300A3P feeder breaker in the existing electrical distribution panel to serve the expansion.  The additional load exceeded the capacity of the existing 180 kW standby generation system that include serving an area that served only selected loads.  An interlock system was used to limit the load in that area being served by the existing generator.  The design consisted of retaining the existing standby generator and added a 150 kW generator supplied with a 225A3P & 300A3P circuit breakers.  The 225A3P was used to reserve the existing 225A3P automatic transfer switch, which remove the associated load from the existing 180 kW generator and existing load limiting interlock system was disconnect to serve the entire area.  The 300A3P served a new 300A3P automatic transfer switch for serving the expansion.   The new generator was an exterior unit with an outdoor enclosure with a sub-base dual wall diesel fuel tank provided with associated water jacket heater, battery charger, controller, monitoring alarm relays and a remote annunciator for notification of operating conditions of the generator.
