Airport Road Regional Pumping Station

Project Description

Carew Associates provided the design for the upgrade of a 12 GPM regional pumping station including the 1600 amp, 277/480 volt, 3-phase Motor Control Center, Solid State Starters, capacitors, 1000 kW standby power generation system and station controls. PLC control with redundant processors provided operation of six (6) 150 hp sewage pumps.

The Station utilized two influent wet wells with (3) sewage pumps dedicated to each wet well equipped with individual level monitoring. Controls provided for simultaneous operation of both wet wells or separately for performing maintenance of the inactive wet well. A pump down function was provided to allow the operator to reduce the level in the inactive wet well below the normal operation low level condition. The level control consisted of a dual bubbler system with pressure transmitters, gauges, regulators and solenoid valves for purging of the bubbler tubing.

A sewage pump designation panel provided the operator with the means to assign the primary and backup sewage pumps. Failure of a sewage pump's plug valve, high and low discharge pressures and solid state starter failure would automatically start the standby assigned sewage pump. Selected Station alarms are transmitted to the County's Central Monitor Station.
